Once the engagement ring is on your finger, the calendar starts filling up fast! Two of the most anticipated events are the Bridal Shower and the Bachelorette Party. While they both celebrate the bride-to-be, they have very different vibes, traditions, and — most importantly — dress codes.
If you’re a bridesmaid planning these events or a bride wondering what to wear, here is everything you need to know.
The Bridal Shower is traditionally a daytime event, often hosted by family members or the Maid of Honor. It’s a time for multi-generational guests (think grandmothers, aunts, and cousins) to "shower" the bride with gifts and well-wishes.
The Vibe: Elegant, intimate, and classic.
What to Wear (Bride): A white lace midi dress, a floral sundress, or a sophisticated pastel jumpsuit.
What to Wear (Guests): Think "Garden Party" chic — pretty day dresses or polished separates.
The Activity: Opening gifts, playing lighthearted games, and enjoying brunch or afternoon tea.
The Bachelorette (or Hen Do) is the bride’s "last hurrah" with her closest friends. Whether it’s a spa weekend, a city getaway, or a night out on the town, the focus is strictly on fun and friendship.
The Vibe: High-energy, celebratory, and personal.
What to Wear (Bride): This is your time to sparkle! Think sequined minis, feather-trimmed sets, or a chic "Bride" denim jacket. Many brides stick to white, but with a more daring silhouette.
What to Wear (Guests): Often coordinated! Many groups choose a theme (e.g., "everyone in black while the bride is in white" or "cowgirl disco").
The Activity: Dancing, cocktail making, weekend trips, or relaxing at a luxury spa.
While they are usually separate, some modern brides choose a "Bridal Weekend" where the shower happens on Saturday morning and the bachelorette festivities kick off on Saturday night. If you do this, make sure to have a quick outfit change ready to transition from "tea party" to "dance floor."
